Some English words might sound alike, but they are different words.
Here are some examples.
For (for someone) 为了 and (one, two three, four) Four "一二三四" 的 "四"
Buy (buy a ticket) 买东西 and (goodbye) Bye 说再见
Cell (cell phone) 手机 and Sell (sell lemonade) 卖东西
Sea (beach and sea) 大海 and See (I see you.) 看见
The following ones are close, but have different sounds. Listen carefully.
Accept (accept the gift) 接受, and Except (except Sunday) 除什么之外
Quiet (loud and quiet) 安静, and Quite (not quite the same) 非常
Half (two and a half) 一半, and Have (I have something.) 有
Feel (I feel great.) 感受, and Fill (fill up the gas) 加满
So, be careful as you listen to English.
