“This is what God does. He gives his best – the sun to warm and the rain to nourish – to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty.”
These words to live by come from the Bible, in the New Testament, in the book of Matthew, chapter 5, verse 45. 圣经良言出自新约马太福音5章45节
In my life, I know what to expect. If I am always good to someone, he will probably be good to me. If I am usually good to someone, but then I have a bad day where I am in a very bad mood, and I am mean to someone, he may still be nice to me that day. But if I keep acting mean to him, he will probably stop being my friend. If I really keep being mean to him, he will probably become my enemy.
So, in our lives we have friends and we have enemies. We treat people according to what they deserve. They treat us how we deserve. We call this “being fair”. We like people to be “fair.” If I am always good to people, I want them to be good to me. That is fair. That is what I deserve.
So that is how I expect God to be. I expect God to be fair. I think that he should be good to the good people. Because they deserve it. And God should be bad to the bad people. Because they deserve it. That's fair and I expect God to be fair.
But the Bible says something very surprising about God. God is not fair. God makes the sun to shine on the good people so that they can feel warm. And what does God do to the bad people? God makes the sun shine on the bad people too, so that they can also feel warm. That is not fair. But that is how God acts.
God sends the rain to the good people. And God sends the rain to the bad people. God does not give us what we deserve. This tells us something very important about God. God is very different from us. God loves.
神降雨给好人，也降雨给不好的人。神并不是按我们所当得的给我们。这告诉我们有关神的一个重要真理。神与我们大不同。神 是 爱。
I am not a good person. So I expect God to be my enemy. I expect him to be fair. But to my surprise, God is not like that. He loves me. He treats me well. Not because I am a good person. But because he always loves.
“This is what God does. He gives his best – the sun to warm and the rain to nourish – to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty.” 神叫日头照好人，也照歹人。降雨给义人，也给不义的人。
